I was hooked at page one. The story revolves around Kelsey Tremayne, a rich girl abducted as a teenager, who resurfaces with no memory of what happened. The community believes she killed her friend, and after intense interrogations, her family takes her away to avoid the gossip. Kelsey spends years in therapy trying to heal, but the trauma lingers. Now as an adult, she must return to the family mansion to clear it out and chase away her internal demons.
The author did a great job of making the mansion one creepy experience. I was getting spine-tingles just reading certain passages. The plot was also great. As you read, you start to get hints of what happened in the past. You also get to watch as Kelsey slowly learns to trust and fall in love with police office, Sam Carmichael. He has his own issues to deal with, and the connection between the two of them is quite lovely. I enjoyed all of the backstories as well including the cats, dog, grieving mother, and runaway teen.
Last night I was close to finishing the book and could not put it down. I had to read it in the dark while my husband slept, just to know what happened. It reminded me of when I was a kid and would read Nancy Drew books in bed with a flashlight. LOL. How many of you did that as a kid?
This was an awesome read, even though I figured out whodunit before the end. The writing was great, the descriptions were excellent, and the author did a marvelous job of revealing pieces of the puzzle one excruciating hint at a time. I would highly recommend this book.
